Mary Dye Obituary

Mary Lee Sleyster Dye, 80, of Hannibal, MO formerly of Perry, MO passed away at 6:11 pm Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Dye requested her family honor her choice of cremation with no services to be held.

The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Hannibal.

Mary was born June 20, 1939, to Francis Leland and Ellen Myers Sleyster.

On April 1, 1958, she married Cullen Brant Dye and he survives her.

To this union were born three children: Dennis, Shari and Julie.

Mrs. Dye’s main interest was her family.  She wanted nothing more than to be a Granny, enjoying Andru, Ashley, Lindsay, Eli and Tanner, who were the light of her life.  Her devotion and spoiling did not wane when she became a great grandmother to Chloe Madison Fierge, Addilyn Lane Crow, Cade Thomas Fierge and Annistyn Raine Crow.  Preceding her in death was the son-in-law she considered a son, Ronnie Bell.  Surviving are her children, Dennis Dye of Columbia, Shari Bell of Perry and Julie and Steve Fohey Hannibal; five grandchildren, Andru Bell and Eli Bell of Perry, Ashley and Alan Crow of Paris, Lindsay and Tommy Fierge of Perry and Tanner Fohey (Carly) of Hannibal; and the four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Dye was a member of Perry Christian Church where she was active with the Christian Women’s Fellowship group until she and her husband moved to Hannibal in 2015, leaving their home of 49 years in Perry.  What fun she had with her family, especially her grandsons, trying to explain all the “stuff,” they were having to deal with what had collected in the attic and basement.  She often admitted to keeping her nose stuck in a book and loved reading to the generations of children she had enjoyed.   Having grown up working in the Sleyster Rexall Drug Store, she loved retail and working with the public, carrying that interest into her own business, Mary Lee’s Plants and Gifts in Perry, where her husband and family were also involved. She continued to enjoy arranging flowers.  She had been involved in various clubs and while in business, was active in Perry Area Chamber of Commerce and had worked for the Perry Enterprise seventeen years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry Christian Church at P.O. Box 479, Perry, Missouri, 63462; or the Perry Volunteer Fire Department c/o Perry City Hall (attention Perry Fire Chief Andru Bell); or to the Hannibal Free Public Library, 200 S. 5th St., Hannibal, Missouri 63401, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel
