Kent Nelson Brown, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 6:40 a.m., on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at his residence.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, in Hannibal, MO with a Celebration of Life gathering at the Hannibal Country Club from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Kent Nelson Brown was born May 7, 1940, in Hannibal, MO. He was the son of Horace Kent and Helen (Nelson) Brown.
Survivors include, one daughter, Susan Brown Neely and husband Robert of Celina, TX; his companion, Karen Jaynes of Chatham, IL; two grandchildren, Hunter and Isabella Neely; one niece, Elizabeth B. Cole and one nephew, Scott D. Brown.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by one brother, Allen G. Brown.
Kent graduated from Hannibal High School in 1958, where he continues to hold the record for the Most FreeThrows in a season (145) and was a member of the All-State Basketball Team in 1958. He went on to further his education at the University of Missouri on a basketball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Public Administration from the University of Mississippi.
Mr. Brown worked and served as past President of Raible& Brown Insurance & Real Estate, past Secretary and Treasurer of American Loan & Savings Association where he also served on the Board of Directors.
Kent was very active in both the Hannibal and University of Missouri community. He was a member of the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce, Hannibal Country Club, Elks Club, former President and member of the Hannibal Lions Club, former President of the University of Missouri Alumni Athletic Commission and District Chairman for the University of Missouri Tiger Scholarship Fund.
Kent was a member of the First Christian Church in Hannibal.
