Harold J. Robertson, 93, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 9:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Dr. Woodrow Burt will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Harold was born on January 15, 1926, in Hannibal, MO the son of Samuel and Beatrice (Ravenscraft) Robertson. He was united in marriage to Laura Knopp on May 30, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, MO.
Survivors include his wife Laura Robertson of the home; sister, Josephine White of Quincy, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Miller and Bernice Cunningham, four brothers, Lloyd Robertson, Paul Robertson, Jesse Robertson and Samuel Robertson.
Harold graduated from Hannibal High School in January of 1944 and in March of 1944, joined the Army Air Corp and was stationed in Texas before going overseas to the Philippines and Japan. When WWII ended he was honorably discharged in May of 1946. Harold was a grateful recipient of the GI Bill of Rights and went on to further his education at Hannibal-LaGrange College and later transferred to Chicago Technical College in Chicago, Ill and earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Architectural and Structural Engineering. Later in life while living and working in St. Louis, Harold attended Washington University along with St. Louis University to keep his knowledge in the engineering field up with the newest innovations.
Harold worked as an Architectural & Structural Engineer for Fallstaff Brewing Company, Monsanto & Bank Building & Equipment before his retirement in the 1990’s.
Away from work, Harold could be found gardening and fishing in the summer. Harold was known for growing some of the best tomatoes, green peppers & bushels of green beans around. During the winter months, Harold enjoyed woodworking in his garage building fine furniture and other household items. Harold and Laura enjoyed traveling; they had visited all fifty states except North Dakota and had traveled overseas to several destinations including Europe, Africa, and Morocco. One of their favorite destinations was the Panama Canal.
Mr. Robertson attended the First Presbyterian Church in Hannibal.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Pollitt, Robbie White and Cody Wilson.
