Glen Parsons Obituary

 

Glen E. Parsons, 86, of New London, MO and former Ralls County Sheriff passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

Funeral services will be held 12 o’clock noon Monday, April 22, 2019, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.  Pastor Tom Day and Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.  Burial with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be in the Barkley Cemetery in New London.

Visitation celebrating Glen’s life will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Glen was born on June 24, 1932, in New London, MO the son of Buell Henry and Ruby Davis (Haden) Parsons.  He was united in marriage to Marilyn “Jane” Krigbaum on February 26, 1956, in Hannibal, MO.  She survives him.

Other survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Pickett of Hannibal, MO, Vickie Parsons of New London, MO, and Cyndi Kilby of Hannibal, MO; sister, Helen Uthlaut (Harold) of Glasgow, MO; nine grandchildren, Kurtis Parsons, Jared Parsons, Craig Parsons, Christy Allen (Zach), Tiffany Allen (Dave), Ashley Armbrecht (David), Eric Kilby, Justin Kilby, and Brandi Colbert (Marcus); thirteen great-grandchildren, Breahnna, Abby, Cora, Amirra, Carlee, Asher, Breighlan, Trinity, Gianna, Samara, Laelle, Ameris, and Marcus; special family friends, Donnie and Raymond McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Parsons was preceded in death by two sons, Gregg and Ronnie Parsons, two brothers, Skelly and Harold Parsons, and sister, Louise McMurphy.

Glen graduated from New London High School in 1949.  Upon graduation Glen joined the United States Army and Honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Japan.

In 1968, Glen was elected to serve Ralls County as their Sheriff.  Glen faithfully served the citizens of Ralls County for 20 years.  Glen truly loved his job as Sheriff.  He enjoyed helping and visiting with the citizens throughout his career as Sheriff.  After his retirement in 1988, Glen enjoyed working at Parsons Gas Station and visiting with all the customers.

Away from work Glen’s favorite past time was working in his yard.  Glen loved to mow his grass and keep his lawn looking immaculate.  When time allowed Glen enjoyed watching MU Basketball and was an avid Cardinals fan.  Most of all Glen loved his family and cherished the time spent with them especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Glen was a member of the New London Lions Club, Missouri Sheriff’s Association, Emmette J. Shields American Legions Post #55, and New London First Christian Church.

Pallbearers will be Kurtis Parsons, Jared Parsons, Craig Parsons, Eric Kilby, Justin Kilby, Arlen Uthlaut, Donnie McIntosh and Raymond McIntosh.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel to assist the family with funeral expenses.
