Constance “Susie” Shelton, 68, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Graveside services and burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Grand View Burial Park.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Hannibal.
Susie was born on August 3, 1950, in Hannibal, MO the daughter of John W. and Constance R. (Heilman) Rethorn.
She was united in marriage to Frederick “Fred” Shelton on May 28, 1976, in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2001.
Survivors include stepsons, Raymond Shelton of New York, NY and Steve Shelton and wife Diane of Urbandale, IA; brother, John Rethorn and wife Carolyn; aunt, Doris Horner; niece, Carol Ann Scholes (Mike); nephews, John David Rethorn (Lori) and James Robert Rethorn (Ashli) all of Hannibal, MO; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Susie graduated from Hannibal High School in 1968 and went to work as a Wire Chief for CBQ Railroad that later became the Burlington Northern Railroad. After working for the railroad for 20 years, Susie was the manager at the Mark Twain Cave for several years and later worked in the deli at Walmart.
Susie was full of life and loved to travel, especially to Alaska. While traveling, Susie loved visiting caves across the United States. She had a love for wildlife and enjoyed feeding all the animals around her home. In her younger years, she enjoyed swimming at the YMCA. Attending country and western concerts and shows around the Hannibal area was another favorite of Susie’s.
Susie was a member of the Eastern Star and Park United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James E. Cary Cancer Center or Leaps of Love, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
