Alice W. Jurgensof Hannibal, MO passed away at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at her home.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Scott Salo will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Alice was born on July 7, 1923, in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Jacob K. and Anna I. (Bastian) Alexander.
She was united in marriage to Paul W. “Bill” Jurgens on November 2, 1947, at Oakwood Christian Church. Bill preceded her in death on September 9, 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Merrilyn Jurgens of Hannibal, MO and Patricia Jennings and husband Roger of Frankford, MO; grandchildren, Mindy Jennings and fiancé Tracy Finnigan of New London, MO, and Craig Jennings and fiancé Christi Flanigan of Mexico, MO; great grandchildren, Taron and Jaelee Finnigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jurgens was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim, Keith, Rev, Sylvester and Robert Alexander, and sister, Anna Ruth Cunningham.
Alice graduated from Hannibal High School in 1941. She had a lifelong career as a secretary for Claytons Savings & Loans, Western Printing, Allied Maintenance through American Cyanamid, and the Hannibal Public Schools.
Family was everything to Alice especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family gatherings and baking them her homemade apple dumplings and mac n cheese. Alice also enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. In her spare time Alice had the craft of painting china.
Mrs. Jurgens was a member of the Hannibal Regional Auxiliary, Luther Manor Auxiliary, past board member of the Hannibal Rural Fire Department, and China Painters.
Alice was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was involved in the LWML Ladies Aid and was an avid supporter of the St. John’s Bell Choir.
Pallbearers will be Craig Jennings, Mindy Jennings, Roger Jennings, Taron Finnigan, David Jurgens and Chuck Jurgens.
Honorary pallbearers will beJaelee Finnigan and all of Alice’s very dear and cherished nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made tothe Hannibal Rural Fire Department or St. John’s Lutheran Church, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
