Wilma Coulter Obituary

Wilma Frances Coulter, 92, of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 4:48 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Luther Manor Retirement & Nursing Center, in Hannibal.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal. Rev. Richard Ingmire will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel with a Beta Sigma Phi Ritual held at 7:00 p.m.

Wilma was born on July 6, 1925, in Chula, Mo. the daughter of Samuel W. and Georgia (Norvel) Ireland.

She was united in marriage to Jack Warren Coulter on November 9, 1946 in Kansas City, Ks. Along with this marriage she gained twin sons five years of age and a daughter one-year old. She raised them as if they were her own. Jack preceded her in death on January 26, 1990.

She is survived by two sons, Bill Coulter (Connie) of Paola, Ks. and Bud Coulter (Barb) of South Haven Michigan; one daughter, Leslie Cheryl Herzog of Hannibal, Mo.; one brother, Donald Ireland (Betty) of Dawn, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Ireland of Dawn, Mo., and Betty Sue Ireland of Bosworth, Mo.; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Coulter of Olathe, Ks., and Norma Coulter of Michigan; one son-in-law, Tom Herzog (Sally) of Quincy, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jeff, Joey and Shawn Coulter all of Michigan, Kym Mullins of North Dakota, and Angie Herzog Kolb (Doug) of Jefferson City, Mo. whom she helped raise; thirteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Coulter was preceded in death by one sister, five brothers, one grandson William Michael Coulter, two nieces, Joyce Bell and Brenda Ireland.

Wilma graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1942. Her husband and she moved to Hannibal, Mo. in 1957. She worked for Western Printing, Adams-HyKlas Market, and retired from Kroger in April 1990, where she was the head checker for twenty-seven years.

Mrs. Coulter was an honorary member of Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary for twenty years. She also volunteered at the Mark Twain Museum for 10 years and was a fifty-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Wilma was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she served on several committees and boards.

Wilma loved to play Bingo, cards especially "Pitch". She also enjoyed going to the casino and loved to travel. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Mrs. Coulter was a loving wife, mother, grandma & great grandma especially to Miranda and Alison Kolb who lived the closest to her. She loved life and family with her whole heart.

Pallbearers will be Tom Ireland, Dale Ireland, Richard Ireland, Terry McCracken, Gerald Plaster, Jackie Greathouse, Jerry Verrant and Larry McCluskie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Coulter's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Davita Dialysis or St. John's Lutheran Church, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
