Glenda Dryden Obituary

Glenda Diane Dryden, 68, of Columbia, MO formerly of Hannibal, MO passed away at 9:04 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2018.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.

Glenda's request was for everyone to dress casual during the services.

Glenda was born on July 4, 1949, in Fort Lee, VA the daughter of Robert Earl and Georgia Helen (Ackerman) Copenhaver.

She was united in marriage to Larry M. Dryden on August 20, 1971, in Hannibal, MO. He survives her.

Other survivors include three sons, Larry "Buddy" Dryden, Jr. and wife Contessa of Columbia, MO, Robert "Eric" Dryden and wife Jill of Fulton, MO, and Shawn Dryden and wife Amber of Hannibal, MO; six grandchildren, Chloe Dryden, Makayla Dryden, Robert Emmanuel Dryden, Emma Dryden, Logan Wojcik and Xavier Sykes; mother-in-law, Emily Dryden of Hannibal, MO; brother, Dick Copenhaver (Deane) of Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dryden was preceded in death by two sisters, Nathalene Hobbs and Roberta Lane.

Glenda graduated from Palatine High School in 1967. She went on to further her education at St. Mary's College of Nursing in Kansas City, where she received her R.N. license.
Glenda worked as a RN in the Hannibal area. She previously worked for Dr. Heidi Fischer and later worked as the Director of Medical Records at Willow Care in Hannibal before her retirement.

Glenda enjoyed helping people through work and as a friend through her kind words and encouragement. She enjoyed volunteering at the NEMO Humane Society, Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, gardening, singing, dancing, and cooking, especially Italian food.
Glenda was a member of the VFW Post 2446 in Hannibal, where she managed the bar for several years. Glenda was a proud supporter of her husband Larry, a Vietnam Veteran.
Together they formed the Northeast Missouri Vietnams Veterans Group. One of their many accomplishments was a Vietnam Memorial placed at Mark Twain Lake.

The biggest love Glenda had was her family. She cherished holidays, birthdays, and family gatherings spent together.

Pallbearers will be Robert Dryden, Shawn Dryden, Scott Michaels, Bill Houser, Jr., David Johnson, Dave Hirner, Bob Sparks, and Jim Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenda's grandchildren, Nicki Darnell, Lianne Kelley, Carolyn Waddell, and Glenda "The Ragin Cajun" Anderport.

Memorial contributions may be made to Glenda's grandchildren or the NEMO Humane Society, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
