Doris Brinker Obituary

Doris June Brinker, 94, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 5:45 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Monday, February 22, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pastor Jack Emmite will officiate. Burial will be in Barkley Cemetery in New London, MO.

Visitation will be held 10:30 to 11:30 AM Monday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Doris was born December 1, 1921, in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Arthur M. and Rose (Freday) Wilson.

She was married to Lloyd Delton Brinker on April 20, 1946, in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1982.

Survivors include one son, Clark Brinker of Houston, TX; one daughter, June Allen and husband Richard of Baltimore, OH; one sister, Shirley Hull and husband Dr. Richard of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren, Paul Allen, Benjamin Allen, Dr. Sara Allen and Mathew Allen; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Brinker was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Nobles.

Doris graduated from Hannibal High School in the class of 1939. After high school, Doris advanced her education at Hannibal-LaGrange College and Chillicothe Business College. Doris taught music at Mills Creek, Flint Hill and Oak Hill country schools. She also worked at Western Printing. Before retirement in 1989 Doris had worked for several years as a secretary at the Hannibal Public School Board Office, high school principal's office and guidance counselor's office.

Mrs. Brinker was a fifty plus year member of Antioch Baptist Church. Doris was very active at Antioch, in the past she had taught Sunday school for several years along with leading the choir and playing the piano.

Doris was a very talented musician, she enjoyed playing music and singing in the Hannibal Choral, reading her Bible, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
